The USW BC Interior Bargaining Committee and Canfor met in Prince George this week and had some serious discussion on alternate shifting language and severance language regarding permanent plant closure and permanent partial plant closure.
Permanent plant closure and permanent partial plant closure is recognized by forest workers in all regions of the province as a very significant issue.
BC Interior Bargaining Committee believes collective agreement language on permanent plant closure and permanent partial plant closure is needed to prevent employers from simply running their workers out of seniority and then announcing a permanent closure of their operation to avoid the payment of severance.
The USW Interior Bargaining Committee and Canfor will resume bargaining on Wednesday, February 17th in Prince George.
