At the request of West Fraser, the USW BC Interior Bargaining Committee met with the new West Fraser Bargaining Committee at the USW District 3 Office in Burnaby.

West Fraser representatives expressed concern regarding the lack of progress in provincial bargaining. They also expressed a desire to negotiate a collective agreement that would be used as a pattern for the rest of the forest industry.

The West Fraser bargaining proposal delivered to the USW BC Interior Bargaining Committee featured amendments to the previous West Fraser bargaining proposal tabled last June in Prince George. Although some changes had been made, the Company is still seeking a number of cost reductions.

The BC Interior Bargaining Committee will meet on December 17th in Burnaby to review all options before making any decision as to which employer group represents the best chance of completing a collective agreement.
