The Bargaining Committee reconvened in Prince George on Monday September 21, 2009.

The Union proceeded to once again emphasize the importance of the safety language we had presented. Below is a overview on direct fatalities in the forest industry [Source: BC Forest Safety Council]

• 2005 43 workers Lost their Lives
• 2006 12 workers Lost their Lives
• 2007 13 workers Lost their Lives
• 2008 16 workers Lost their Lives

In total 88 families lost a father, mother, son or daughter for no other reason than they went to work.

This disgraceful number does not reflect the many workers maimed in workplace injuries. Workers who are forced to live the rest of their lives with permanent disabilities.

To United Steelworkers Safety is ALWAYS #1, we believe no family should ever have to grieve the loss of a loved one due to a workplace incident.
We believe the language we have proposed will be a step towards the realization of that goal.
