BARGAINING BULLETIN #10 August 14 2009

On August 11th, 12th and 13th the Interior Negotiating Committee met with the CONIFER representatives in the training room of Local 1-425, in Williams Lake.

Your Bargaining Committee once again reiterated concerns regarding job security. After some lengthy discussions the employers presented a proposal to start addressing the members’ needs in this area.

The Steelworkers’ proposal to extend seniority retention for the length of the new collective agreement (yet to be discussed) has now been agreed to. This is just one component of a final settlement and is of course subject to acceptance of a new master agreement.

With that, Industry has indicated that they are open to consideration of our job security agenda, we still have a long journey ahead of us, and if we can keep Industry’s attention to our members’ needs with respect to those employment security issues, we think that can establish the basis for the development of a comprehensive progressive collective agreement.

The Committee is scheduled to meet with C.O.N.I.F.E.R. in Prince George again on August 18-20.
