PRELIMINARY MEETINGS UNDERWAY
On May 13th 2009 Local 1-425 President Bill Derbyshire, 1-424 President Frank Everitt, 1-417 President Marty Gibbons & Wood Council Chair Bob Matters met with representatives of West Fraser for the purpose of discussing negotiations logistics including the process to deal with “Local Issues”.
The United Steelworker representatives informed the Company that our intent was to proceed with a Master set of proposals and amend the different agreements accordingly.
Previously, Local 1-424 President Frank Everitt, 1-417 President Marty Gibbons ,1-405 President Stan McMaster & Wood Council Chair Bob Matters met with representatives of Canfor at the District 3 office in Burnaby B.C. , and prior to that, Locals 1-425 & 1-424 (Bill Derbyshire, Frank Everitt & Bob Matters) had met with C.O.N.I.F.E.R. and those meetings were for the same purposes.
On May 20th 2009 the Southern Interior bargaining committee consisting of Local 1-423 President Bruce Gardner, Local 1-417 President Marty Gibbons, Local 1-405 President Stan McMaster & Wood Council Chair Bob Matters will be meeting with the IFLRA to discuss preliminary matters and logistics.
Your Provincial Negotiating Committee intends to open Negotiations with all four groups and after analyzing the various Employers positions, select one to negotiate and conclude a new collective agreement.
"For those who don't know Tembec bargains with the USW as a member of the IFRLA (Interior) while you'll also see another name CONIFER, which is the northern group. West Fraser and Canfor, the two biggest companies, bargain on their own. As you can see in the bulletin the negotiating team will begin to bargain with one group and try and set the pattern contract for the rest of the interior and up north."
